A look back at 2011 Engagements

Every year I have made it customary to do more than one “Best of” post. I photograph so many people and so many types of events that I don’t feel like it’s right to lump it all in together. 2010 was an amazing year and I thought it couldn’t be beat, but I was wrong. 2011 somehow got even better and the people I met and experiences I had were some that I never dreamed I would have, especially living in Iowa. I want to thank each and every one of you who have touched my life in some way over the last year. May 2012 exceed my expectations once again!

With that, here are the best of 2011 engagement sessions. As usual, it was very hard to pick favorites. I’m learning by looking at these that I tend to love the up close and tender moments between couples the most.

I just wanted to throw a quick sneak peek up from one of my recent engagement sessions. I plan on fully posting all of them once wedding season is over in about a month. I also will have another wedding up on my blog later tonight! I just LOVED this shot! Lyssa works at Schaffers Bridal and has been recommending me to brides for quite a while. It was exciting for her to finally have her turn for photos! More to come later!

I want to just say, yes I KNOW I already blogged something today but this is just me trying to get everything done before I leave to shoot a wedding in St. Pete, Fl. this week. No, not completely done with everything, but enough to let me relax and not worry about being gone for a week! Also a reminder, I may not be able to answer all e-mails while I am gone, so please be patient till I get back!

Sometimes people think I am crazy when I ask them to meet me in the evening for sessions rather than during the day. But they quickly find out why. The light is nothing short of amazing. There’s really nothing like it and if you want that dreamy glowy look, then evening sessions are what you want. This session had a bunch of it. So what do you get when you add amazing lighting and a beautiful, fun-loving couple? See below.

P.S. This post is also a good example of why I give out black and white versions of all of my portraits. I simply usually cannot decide whether I love the color or black and white better. There are wonderful qualities to each, so I leave it up to you to decide!
